Three hundred rescuers search for survivors of Batumi building collapse, PM says
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili says about 300 rescuers are searching for 10-15 people in the rubbles of a residential building that collapsed in Batumi, Georgia, earlier today.
PM Garibashvili has arrived in Batumi to observe the rescue operation on the ground.
“A very tragic story happened. According to the preliminary information, 10-15 people are trapped in the wreckage. We exert all efforts to resolve the situation duly”, Garibashvili said.
Part of a five-storey residential building on May 26 Street in Batumi collapsed earlier today. Neighbours say the building had a two-storey extension on top.
