Three foreign nationals arrested for attempting to smuggle large quantities of cocaine and other drugs into Georgia
Officers from Georgia’s Central Criminal Police Department, in collaboration with the Customs Department of the Revenue Service, have thwarted an attempt to smuggle a substantial quantity of narcotics into the country.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), three individuals, citizens of Ukraine, Türkiye, and the United States, were detained on suspicion of drug trafficking at Tbilisi International Airport and the Sarpi border checkpoint.
“During searches of the suspects’ personal and travel belongings, law enforcement officers uncovered various types of narcotics and psychotropic substances, including up to 300 grams of cocaine and 350 pills containing methadone and other psychotropic substances,” the Ministry stated.
The investigation remains ongoing under Articles 260 and 262 of the Criminal Code, which carry penalties of up to 20 years’ imprisonment or life imprisonment.
