Tensions and verbal clashes at Legal Affairs Committee over transparency bill
The session of the Legal Affairs Committee is taking place amidst disruptions and noise.
At the session, majority member Maia Bitadze and opposition UNM MP Levan Khabeishvili confronted each other. Before this, committee chair Anri Okhanashvili warned Levan Khabeishvili and asked him to leave the session subsequently.
Khabeishvili addressed the majority: “Why are you upset? Why is there a Russian law, and you act like Russians?”
Maia Bitadze protested against Khabeishvili’s remarks.
In addition, Guram Macharashvili and Khatia Dekanoidze confronted each other during the session. Their confrontation stemmed from the decision of Anri Okhanashvili, who stated that Khatia Dekanoidze had violated the rules and needed to leave the session.
Dekanoidze referred to the majority members as ‘Russians’ and ‘nobodies’. Her comment prompted a protest from Guram Macharashvili, who reminded Dekanoidze that she had renounced her Georgian citizenship due to her position in Ukraine.
Following a verbal confrontation, Khatia Dekanoidze threw a plastic bottle at Guram Macharashvili.
Before that, several opposition MPs were expelled from the session of the Legal Affairs Committee.
The second reading of the draft law On the Transparency of Foreign Influence is under discussion at the session.
