Tender launched for major tourism infrastructure upgrade in Poka

The Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Georgia has issued a tender for tourism infrastructure development in the vicinity of the village of Poka St. Nino Nunnery, Ninotsminda Municipality.

According to the Ministry, the tender covers the preparation of design documentation and the subsequent execution of reconstruction and rehabilitation works based on those plans.

“The project encompasses the rehabilitation of the open-air baptismal site on the shores of Lake Paravani along with its access infrastructure, the landscaping of the Paravani River headworks and surrounding grounds, the reconstruction of the existing bridge, the upgrade of sanitary facilities, as well as the construction and rehabilitation of vehicular roads and pedestrian pathways within the convent grounds.

The project involves upgrading the existing car park, repairing the damaged churchyard and perimeter wall, and overhauling the outdoor lighting and power supply networks. Furthermore, a multi-functional educational centre will be established, while existing buildings on the convent grounds and the water supply system will be restored.

Poka St Nino Nunnery is an immovable cultural heritage monument of national significance. Consequently, all visitor and pilgrim infrastructure will be installed in strict accordance with cultural heritage protection regulations.

The implementation of the project will contribute to the development of tourism infrastructure in Poka, create appropriate conditions for visitors and pilgrims, and preserve the historical and cultural significance of the area,” the statement reads.
