Teimuraz Sharashenidze: Ukrainian side treated the position of official Tbilisi with understanding and expressed hope for further deepening of partnership

Georgian Ambassador to Ukraine Teimuraz Sharashenidze returned to Georgia.

He has arrived in Tbilisi this morning and is currently in the quarantine zone.

Before leaving Kyiv, Sharashenidze held a meeting at the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, where he briefed the ministry about the position of official Tbilisi in connection with former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili.

“Ukrainian side was not surprised by my position and reacted to it with understanding. They also spoke about my messages in the press and gave their assessment. My call for consultations and the position of the Georgian side are well known to everyone. In recent days, the Prime Minister and other high-ranking government officials have spoken about this. It is unacceptable for the Georgian side to appoint a person convicted in Georgia to a political post in a country that is a strategic partner. As for relations with Ukraine, the Georgian side will make every effort to maintain partnership relations with Ukraine and even deepen. Our Ukrainian partners agree with us on this. We have common positions on the most important issues, such as Euro-Atlantic integration, de-occupation, strengthening democratic institutions, and with this unity, we show up at the international arena, ” – Sharashenidze told the Georgian First Channel.

According to him, during the meeting, the Ukrainian side stated that Mikheil Saakashvili is a citizen of Ukraine, but the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine treated the position of official Tbilisi with understanding, and expressed hope for the further continuation and deepening of bilateral partnership.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appointed former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili as Chairman of the Executive Committee of Reforms.

Georgian Ambassador Plenipotentiary to Ukraine Teimuraz Sharashenidze was called for consultations in Tbilisi.
