Tbilisi Mayor: Willy Sagnol will forever remain an integral part of football history

“I would like to extend my gratitude to the individual who came to Georgian football with his history and successes and left his mark on the Georgian national team,” wrote Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze in his Facebook post.

According to Kaladze, when Willy Sagnol joined the Georgian team as Chief Coach in 2012, the team experienced difficult times.

“Alongside managing the team, he achieved something of immense significance: he restored our boys’ belief and fighting spirit, and instilled in them the conviction that any dream can come true.

Naturally, the name Willy Sagnol will forever be linked to the day when Georgia qualified for the European Championship finals for the first time. It was an unforgettable victory against Portugal and a historic qualification in the 1/8 finals.

Today, the entire world knows about the Georgian national football team, and Sagnol has played a significant role in this.

Thank you to Willy for those unforgettable matches when the whole country stood united in support of the Georgian national team.

Georgia does not forget the people who have left their mark on our country’s success story,” he wrote.

Willy Sagnol quit as Chief Coach of the Georgian National Football Team following the defeat of Georgia against Northern Ireland in their match of the new UEFA Nations League campaign at home on September 25.

According to the Georgian Football Federation (GFF), Ramaz Svanadze will manage the team.
