Willy Sagnol quits as Chief Coach of Georgian National Football Team

Willy Sagnol quit as Chief Coach of the Georgian National Football Team following the defeat of Georgia against Northern Ireland in their match of the new UEFA Nations League campaign at home on September 25.

According to the Georgian Football Federation, Ramaz Svanadze will manage the team.

“Georgian Specialist Ramaz Svanadze will manage the Georgian national football team until the end of 20228. He will replace French football manager Willy Sagnol in the position of Chief Coach. Thanks to Willy Sagnol for every minute spent with the Georgian national team and for the emotions we shared along this historic journey,” the GFF said.

Sagnol had been at the helm of the Georgian national team since February 2021. During this period, the national team played 57 matches. Under Sagnol’s leadership, the Georgian team achieved historic success: In 2024, the team played in the final stage of the European Championship for the first time, where they managed to advance from the group stage and reach the tournament’s top 16 teams.

Ramaz Svanadze headed the U21 youth team and competed in the final stage of the European Championship twice. Giorgi Adamia, Svanadze’s Assistant, will be the coach of the Georgian national under-21 football team.
