Tbilisi Mayor says dogs are not things to throw away

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze touched on the stray animal issue, presenting the Tbilisi City Hall 2023 annual report to the City Assembly (Sakrebulo) sitting.

Kakha Kaladze said that the stray animal issue remained a challenge, and the municipal government would continue funding spaying/neutering surgeries as the solution to reduce their populace.

While responding to the allegation that the number of stray dogs in Tbilisi increased, he said: “First, we humans are to blame. Dogs are not things to take and throw away. If we take the responsibility to adopt a dog, we should have a corresponding attitude to a living creature,” he said.

Tbilisi Mayor reported a legislative initiative aimed to resolve this problem would be submitted to the parliament next week. Non-governmental organizations, vets and other stakeholders worked on the initiative.
