Tbilisi Mayor: Resolution confirms EPP and some MEPs are hostile to Georgia and its European future

“The resolution confirms that the European People’s Party (EPP) and certain Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) are hostile to Georgia and its European aspirations,” stated Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze.

According to Mayor Kaladze, Georgia will steadfastly defend its interests.

“We have encountered similar resolutions many times before. This is interference in our country’s internal political affairs. Since Saakashvili’s era, they have harboured the illusion that Georgia is their backyard. Today, Georgia is governed by an elected government representing the will of the majority. The Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia champions the interests of our nation and its citizens.

Despite blackmail, attacks, and provocations, we will not allow others to use our country for their own agendas. The adoption of this resolution clearly demonstrates that the European People’s Party (EPP) and some of its MEPs are hostile toward Georgia and its European future. We recall their statements urging the release of Mikheil Saakashvili when he was reportedly unwell, as well as their calls for sanctions against our country. Just imagine what our economic situation would look like if we followed such directives. Georgia’s interests will not be sacrificed. We will defend our nation and its future and continue to promote peace and economic development. These bureaucrats will not obstruct our progress, stability, or peace,” he emphasized.

Kaladze also addressed the remarks made by MEP Rasa Juknevičienė: “The current Georgian regime is an example of successful internal state capture by the Kremlin. This might also happen to an EU member state if we don’t stop this infection in time.”

Tbilisi Mayor further criticized the opposition, stating: “These individuals have faced defeat. The Georgian people have triumphed over evil. These bureaucrats are a disaster. Since we voiced our stance on Europe’s future, baseless statements and false propaganda have been the order of the day. Their primary aim appears to be orchestrating a coup, seizing Georgia, and exploiting it for their own interests. They have failed, and all enemies of Georgia will be defeated,” he concluded.

The EPP Congress adopted a resolution regarding Georgia on April 30 in Valencia, Spain.
