Tbilisi Mayor: No one will be excused for attempting to organise coup in Georgia

“No one will be tolerated for attempts to organise revolutions and coups d’état in the country,” Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze told journalists.

As Kaladze emphasised, everyone who has committed a crime will be held accountable.

“For several months before the October 4 developments, there was a campaign suggesting that these individuals and violent groups were planning to stage a coup. On October 4, they began to carry out this threat. However, the relevant state agencies acted in accordance with the law and thwarted the attempted coup. An investigation has been launched, and many people have been detained. Yesterday, Bacho Akhalaia was also detained, and we await the results of the investigation.

We have repeatedly warned and issued calls; many times, you will recall, I myself had to make statements every day that no illegal steps should be taken, because the state will respond firmly and within the bounds of the law. We do not and will not excuse anyone for endeavouring to organise revolutions or coups in this country. Despite numerous warnings and appeals, these individuals acted as they did. Accordingly, everyone involved in the attempted coup will be held accountable,” Kaladze concluded.
