Tbilisi Mayor: Gori incident is very grave, response by relevant services was crucial

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze described an incident in Gori as “very grave,” stating that no one could remain indifferent after seeing the footage, while emphasizing the importance of swift action by relevant authorities.

According to Kaladze, the response from law enforcement demonstrates that everyone is equal before the law.

“The fact was very grave, and I am sure no one who saw the footage could remain indifferent. However, the most important issue is that the relevant services responded. This is another proof that we are all equal before the law and that no one, regardless of who they are, will be allowed to violate the law without consequences,” he said.

Responding to opposition claims about systemic crime, Kaladze said such issues existed before 2012.

“Systemic crime existed before 2012. We all remember what the situation was like in Georgia at that time, how people with different views were treated, and what processes were ongoing. People see everything very clearly and are able to compare and analyze what the country used to be like and what the situation is today,” he added.

The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia detained six individuals in connection with allegations of abuse of power involving police officers in Gori.
