Tbilisi Mayor: Georgia is waiting to reset relations with United States

“Georgia remains in a waiting period to restore relations with the United States,” stated the capital’s mayor, Kakha Kaladze, in response to questions about the upcoming visit of U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance to two South Caucasus nations and the broader efforts to reset ties with Washington.

According to him, Georgia is an independent, sovereign state, and this fact must be respected by all, regardless of the country’s size.

“We are in a waiting period. We have reiterated many times that we are ready to reset relations. Whatever attitude the Biden administration has shown towards Georgia, whether unfair, dishonest, or threatening, is utterly unacceptable. We are an independent, sovereign nation, and everyone must respect our sovereignty and independence. So what if we are a small country? We are an independent state; our ancestors and previous generations fought tirelessly for this. We still have to fight today, and we will do everything in our power to prioritise the interests of our country and its people.

Regarding other matters, I repeat: we are in a waiting period. The key promises made were to end the war and to defeat the ‘Deep State.’ We are waiting to see if those promises were fulfilled. We support the efforts if they truly succeed and if the goals are achieved. At present, it appears that neither the war has ended, nor the Deep State has been defeated. It’s neither one nor the other, so we remain in a waiting mode,” Kakha Kaladze concluded.
