Tbilisi Mayor: Allegations over David Gareji are baseless speculation aimed at smearing the government

“Recent allegations surrounding the David Gareji complex are nothing more than politically motivated speculation designed to damage the Georgian government,” Mayor of Tbilisi Kakha Kaladze has stated.

Speaking to reporters, Kaladze noted that whilst he does not know which specific groups are behind the claims, their underlying motive is clear.

“I do not believe this issue deserves to be taken seriously. I issued a statement on this matter a few days ago; the entire narrative is utterly frivolous. You can tell from the commentary alone that those pushing it cannot even distinguish between metres and kilometres, nor do they grasp what is actually being discussed. This is pure speculation aimed at inflicting political damage on the government and smearing our reputation. However, nothing remains hidden from the public; everything is transparent and clear. These are completely baseless, unevidenced slurs designed to sling mud at the administration. I cannot say which specific factions or interests are driving this, but, obviously, it is a deliberate attempt to undermine the government through unsubstantiated claims and reckless statements,” Kaladze noted.
