Tbilisi City Hall to sustain social support initiatives for children and students
Tbilisi City Hall has reaffirmed its commitment to continuing social assistance programmes for children and adolescents from socially vulnerable families, as well as for students.
Deputy Mayor Andria Basilaia announced this during the presentation of the city’s social and healthcare policy.
“It is of utmost importance to us that all citizens have equal access to municipal services and programmes. A subsidy scheme is in place across all municipal institutions, including the National Palace of Students and Youth, multifunctional centres, art schools, and sports facilities, ensuring that socially vulnerable families can access these offerings. Over the coming years, an estimated 40,000 children and adolescents will benefit from this infrastructure,” said Basilaia.
Andria Basilaia also highlighted that access to higher education remains a priority for the municipality. Accordingly, the student social assistance scheme will continue, supporting up to 20,000 students. The programme will provide financial aid to socially vulnerable students, as well as those from large families and students with disabilities.
Furthermore, as the Deputy Mayor emphasised, all existing social and health programmes will persist in district administrations.
“The district administrations (Gamgeoba) play a vital role in this regard. They are dedicated to addressing local needs. Numerous important initiatives are underway in the health and social sectors within the governorates. These include rent assistance for thousands of families, as well as one-off financial aid during emergencies, such as when individuals are displaced or left homeless.
Additionally, the free canteen scheme operating across districts will continue, alongside the distribution of Easter and New Year gifts, and, if necessary, provision of firewood,” Basilaia concluded.
