Foreign national arrested at Tbilisi Airport as law enforcement intercepts major psychotropic drug smuggling attempt

Officers from the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), in coordination with the Customs Department of the Revenue Service under the Ministry of Finance, have arrested a foreign national on charges of the illegal purchase, possession, and smuggling of large quantities of psychotropic substances into Georgia.

Law enforcement officers intercepted the suspect at Tbilisi International Airport, seizing 200 pills of the psychotropic drug Pregabalin as material evidence during a search of the individual’s person and luggage.

An investigation is underway under Articles 261 and 263 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, covering the illegal acquisition, storage, and smuggling of psychotropic substances, which carries a potential prison sentence of up to seven years.
