Tbilisi City Hall to allocate GEL 10 mln for transplantation program in 2025 budget

“The Tbilisi City Hall will allocate up to GEL 10 million for the Transplantation program in the 2025 city budget, enabling liver and bone marrow transplant procedures and surgeries to be financed,” Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze announced during today’s municipal government meeting.

This initiative is part of the city hall’s ongoing efforts to implement various social and health programs, as Kaladze emphasized.

“There are still families and people who need our assistance and support,” he noted.

Tbilisi Mayor explained that the City Hall-allocated funds will be used to cover the costs of transplantation procedures, with each patient set to receive between GEL 10,000 to 235,000 GEL.

In 2024, the city hall financed 101 cases, totalling GEL 7.5 million, which were transferred to both Georgian and foreign clinics. Since the program’s inception in 2018, the municipal government has financed 50 liver transplantation surgeries.

“As a result of the implementation of the mentioned program, it was possible to prolong and save the lives of dozens of people. I want, first of all, to wish these people strong health,” Kaladze stated.
