Tbilisi City Hall publishes Rustaveli Avenue's Burchuladze’s request and official response

Tbilisi City Hall has released the letter submitted on behalf of Paata Burchuladze, leader of the Rustaveli Avenue movement’s initiative group, along with the City Hall’s official reply.

“Due to significant public interest, we wish to inform you that on September 29, a letter was submitted to the Tbilisi City Hall administration by Paata Burchuladze, head of the initiative group of the Rustaveli Avenue movement. Both the content of the letter and the City Hall’s response are now being made public.

The applicant requested that municipal and state authorities be informed, and that the designated areas be prepared for a public gathering and stage setup on October 4.

In response, organisers were advised to position the stage in a single location that does not obstruct traffic flow or interfere with the operation of nearby facilities.

The reply also clarifies that, in accordance with legislation, it is prohibited to physically obstruct voters’ movement within polling stations or within 100 metres of them on voting day. Gathering within 100 metres of a polling station on election day is also not permitted.

While Georgia’s legislation guarantees citizens’ right to assemble and protest peacefully, organisers and participants are obliged to comply with the Law of Georgia ‘On Assemblies and Manifestations’. Failure to do so may result in measures mandated by law,” the City Hall statement concluded.
