Tbilisi Central administration issues statement on fire at Borjomi Railway station market
“A fire erupted at the Borjomi Railway Station market area at 6 a.m. on April 30, consuming approximately 12,000 square meters of trading and warehouse space,” stated the administration of Tbilisi Central.
The statement further clarified, “Tbilisi Central holds a 49-year lease for this territory from the Georgian Railway Company.”
According to the official release, since 2021, Bakani LLC has been managing and operating the market on this leased land under a sublease agreement.
“The operator bears responsibility for all legal and technical matters, including compliance with safety regulations. Given the unique nature of the market area, Bakani LLC has ensured adherence to fire safety and other standards mandated by Georgian legislation. Fortunately, the fire resulted in no casualties. The precise causes of the fire and the extent of the damage will be determined following the completion of investigative procedures,” the statement added.
The large fire at the Borjomi Railway Station market has now been fully extinguished. No injuries have been reported. Nearby clinics evacuated their patients and medical staff as a precaution.
