Starting October 1, Switzerland will put Georgia on the list of safe countries, according to the webpage of Swiss Federal Council.
After recognizing Georgia as being a safe country, return of Georgian citizens to their homeland will become reasonable.
Respect of human rights, political stability, healthcare system and evaluations of EU, UN and other international organizations represent the main criteria for recognition of a country as being safe.
The countries recognized by Switzerland include Albania, Benin, Bosnia Herzegovina, Burkina Paso, Gana, India, Kosovo, Moldova (except Transdnestr), Mongolia, North Macedonia, Senegal and Serbia.
According to Swiss Federal Council, the number of Georgian citizens seeking asylum in Switzerland has increased since autumn of 2017 that is connected to the abolishment of visa regime with Schengen zone countries.
By recognizing Georgia as a safe country, Switzerland applies to all the necessary measures for reduction of application of asylum seekers.
