Georgia’s State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality, Tea Akhvlediani, met with Denah Fisher, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Operations Coordinator for Europe and Central Asia.

The meeting focused on the critical importance of the humanitarian process of tracing persons missing as a result of the armed conflicts of the 1990s and the August 2008 Russo-Georgian War, as well as ensuring its continuation and ongoing efficiency.

The State Minister highlighted the ICRC’s vital role and active involvement as a neutral mediator and humanitarian participant in Georgia’s programme to locate missing persons and support their families. She wished Denah Fisher success in her new role as Chair of the Humanitarian Coordination Mechanism operating under the auspices of the ICRC.

Both sides agreed to maintain close cooperation moving forward.

The meeting, held at the Government Administration, was also attended by Joe Barton, Head of the ICRC Delegation in Georgia.
