State funding to be suspended to parliamentary parties that renounce their seats
Irakli Kobakhidze, a member of the parliamentary majority and the Executive Secretary of the Georgian Dream party, said that state funding of the political parties, which members terminated their mandates or abstaining the parliament work, would be either cut off or suspended for a year.
According to him, the package of legislative changes submitted to the Parliament of Georgia envisages these actions.
“We would like to inform you that the parliament initiated a package of bills against parliamentary sabotage yesterday. The package envisages the termination and suspension of state funding for those political parties that do not fully use their parliamentary mandates, or their MPs do not attend the plenary sessions of the parliament without reason,” Irakli Kobakhidze said.
According to him, the wages for those MPs who do not attend plenary sessions for the month would be waved following the new amendment.
“Besides, a bill was introduced in the parliament, which envisages the abolition of election registration of a political party if a person, who does not meet any of the constitutional requirements for active suffrage, participated in the canvassing,” Irakli Kobakhidze said.
According to the ruling party representative, the amendments will be approved by the parliament by the end of next week.
