State Department Spokesperson: Trump administration instructs diplomats to advance national interests over ‘woke political dogmas’

The US Department of State has rescinded a Biden-era directive that required diplomats to advocate Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) agendas in their engagements with foreign officials and governments.

The Trump administration maintains that diplomats on the global stage must champion national interests rather than “woke political dogmas.”

“Under the Trump administration, American diplomats are tasked with defending our national interests on the world stage, not demonstrating allegiance to woke political dogma,” State Department Spokesperson Tommy Pigott told Fox News Digital.

Official Biden administration guidance obtained by the outlet reveals that “the previous administration instructed personnel to promote woke absurdity in high-level discussions and bilateral dialogues with foreign counterparts,” the report reads.

Under the Biden administration, “front offices” were instructed to elevate issues about racial and gender equality, disability rights, and LGBTQI+ rights during bilateral talks and high-level engagements.

The report notes that this guidance was not merely advisory. Under the previous administration, the State Department factored an employee’s execution of DEI policies into promotion decisions.

“This includes actively working to eliminate not only racial/ethnic/gender/LGBTQI+/disability bias, but also bias among Civil and Foreign Service officers who were recruited and hired into the service, including within diplomatic service units,” the article reads.

The document also required front offices to ensure that every employee supported a “DEIA Council”, or, where no such council existed within a front office, supported its establishment.

As Fox News Digital notes, this performance evaluation criterion has been eliminated under the Trump administration.

“The State Department is carrying out sweeping reforms across the Foreign Service to prioritise merit, pivot toward training in tangible diplomatic skills, and equip our nation’s diplomats to respond to the most pressing challenges,” stated State Department Spokesperson Tommy Pigott.
