About 20,000 Russian citizens have entered Georgia since February 24, compared to 40,000 in the same period in 2019, Georgian Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri said in response to rumours about Russian influx in Georgia amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Gomelauri stressed the Interior Ministry and the State Security Service controls the state border “at a very high level.”
“The law enforcement agencies have recently tightened border control, resulting in refused entry to more than 100 foreign citizens, TV Rain reporter among them. This is a common rule when border guard grants entry permit not the Minister or his deputy,” Gomelauri stated.
