SSSG organises 9th session of Interagency Coordination Council for CBRN threats
The ninth session of the Interagency Coordination Council for the Defence against Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Threats was convened under the auspices of the State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG).
The event was inaugurated by the First Deputy Head of the State Security Service and Chair of the Coordination Council, Lasha Maghradze, who highlighted Georgia’s vital contribution to the global effort to prevent the illicit circulation of radioactive and nuclear materials.
According to the SSSG, Maghradze underscored the constructive role played by the Council’s activities, emphasising the importance of regional and international cooperation in strengthening CBRN security.
Members of the Council received a comprehensive report on the progress achieved in implementing the Action Plan of the National Strategy for Reducing Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Threats.
The SSSG reported that the participants engaged in discussions on the challenges faced, priorities identified, and future initiatives necessary to enhance the country’s CBRN defence. Additionally, representatives from various ministries provided updates on ongoing and upcoming activities within their respective agencies.
Alongside the deputy ministers from the Georgian government, the session also welcomed representatives from the U.S. Defence Threat Reduction Agency, the European Union, and the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI).
