SSG detains one individual on charge of affiliation with ISIS

The Counter-Terrorist Center of the State Security Service of Georgia (SSG), through a special raid, detained Malkhaz Paksashvili, a Georgian citizen, on charge of being one of the commanders of the ISIS terrorist organization.

The investigation determined that the individual left Georgia in 2013, departed for Syria and joined the ISIS.

In 2013-2015, holding the title of Naib (an Arabic word for ‘Deputy’ or ‘Representative of Authority’), Malkhaz Paksashvili actively participated in terrorist acts and military operations.

The detained Georgian citizen faces from 10 to 17 years in prison if convicted.
