Special working group launches at Education Ministry to address Technical University issues
Based on the decision made, non-scientific-technical programs at the Georgian Technical University will be placed under a transitional regime, and no new admissions will be announced for these programs in the next academic year, the Education Minister Givi Mikanadze said.
According to the Minister, to ensure the process is carried out as efficiently as possible, a special working group will begin operating at the Ministry under the leadership of the Deputy Minister starting tomorrow.
“This group will include representatives from the university wherever possible. Its goal is to implement the necessary regime and determine the appropriate programs so that the process aligns with the objectives defined by the reform concept. Special attention will be paid to academic staff. Through this working group, we will assess available resources and identify where specific decisions are needed. We aim to retain all current employees as much as possible. One of the main objectives of the group, in addition to reviewing programs, is to properly distribute resources and ensure support for academic staff,” Mikanadze said.
For context, Tbilisi State University and Georgian Technical University will no longer be merged.
Furthermore, only disciplines that were taught at the Technical University before the 1990s will remain part of its core curriculum, and admissions to all other disciplines will not be announced for the next academic year.
