Speaker: We stand on truth, this is our unshaken foundation

“We stand on the truth — this is our solid and main foundation, which no one has shaken to this day,” Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, made these remarks to journalists after a meeting with a delegation from the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.

According to Papuashvili, the leadership of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly is trying, especially under the current difficult conditions, to understand the truth and not accept uncritically the propaganda and disinformation that, according to him, is being spread against the Georgian people.

“When you stand on the truth, someone may create short-term artificial problems for you, but it is impossible to hide the truth or build on lies for a long time,” Papuashvili said.

According to him, it is important that international organizations are not used as tools to promote the political agenda of certain countries or political groups.

“In some cases, this has happened, for example, with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the European Parliament. The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, fortunately, is so far more or less protected from such influence. Its leadership is trying, especially in these difficult conditions, to understand the truth and not accept the propaganda and disinformation that we hear from Brussels against the Georgian people uncritically,” Papuashvili said.

A senior delegation of parliamentarians from the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, led by Pere Joan Pons Sampietro, President of the Assembly, is visiting Georgia from March 8 to 10.
