Speaker: Transparency law should be adopted in interest of Georgian people; Natural that foreign countries do not have interest in having their influence transparent
The Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, on Sunday, said the draft law on Transparency of Foreign Influence should be adopted in the interest of the Georgian people; “It’s natural that foreign countries do not have interest in having their influence transparent.”
According to the Speaker, “neither the United States nor European countries want their influence to be transparent in Georgia.”
“Regarding the congressmen’s letter and other statements, instead of the Congress ensuring the transparency of the expenses of the National Endowment for Democracy in Georgia, which secretly finances political parties and radical groups in Georgia, we see that on the contrary, they cover up the secret spending of the U.S. budget in Georgia and criticize the Georgian society, those who want to know how the American money is spent on in Georgia; [and] how the European money is spent on in Georgia.
It is a bit absurd situation, instead of European and American actors listening to the desire and concern of the Georgian people that American and European money is being quietly spent on political activities, understanding this concern and ensuring the transparency of these funds, we see that there is an encouragement of a disinformation campaign against this law and to finally sow some hysteria”, said Papuashvili.
