Speaker says GD encounters resistance from donors

“Unfortunately, despite several calls to publicize their funding in Georgia, we encounter resistance from donors. Several donor organizations conceal what they spend their money on in Georgia,” said Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.

According to the Speaker, when someone hides something, it means that nothing good stands behind it. He reminded that some political parties admitted to receiving foreign finances through fake NGOs.

“Nobody needs to hide good deeds, and when they hide something, there are no good things behind it. We have seen some organizations, such as the European Endowment for Democracy, fund the payment of fines for people who violate law and order. We witnessed certain donor organizations discreetly funding political parties and radical groups involved in acts of violence,” he said.

The Speaker called on all donor organizations and embassies to make their funding public.

“This is the Russian style when underground activities are financed in another country secretly, using the methods of special services,” he said.
