Speaker questions German Ambassador's rental deal with 'extremist politician' while lecturing Georgians from moral high ground
“Mamuka Khazaradze only does business when he has greenhouse conditions created by the government. Apparently, that’s how he’s set up his business and amassed his fortune. He cannot even manage the legal or financial aspects of renting his own apartment properly. As we observe, he has been concealing taxes,” stated Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Georgian Parliament.
According to him, Mamuka Khazaradze’s fraud has been confirmed at international, domestic, human, diplomatic, and every other level.
“It’s been confirmed that Lelo is a party created for fraudulent purposes, whose goal was to embezzle money from the budget. Its members and supporters should also consider that they are participants in fraud. Regarding the contract between the German Ambassador and Mamuka Khazaradze, when Ambassador Fischer signed the agreement with Khazaradze on behalf of Germany in autumn 2022, Khazaradze had already been convicted of fraud and had renounced his parliamentary mandate.
By any definition, the ambassador should have refrained from signing a contract with this person; this is an international standard. I personally worked on German government programs for several years. Initially, there were restrictions on signing contracts with politically active individuals, and eventually, such agreements were entirely prohibited due to the heightened risk of corruption during that period. The ambassador either knew he was signing a contract with an unreliable person, or he’s so incompetent that, through his incompetence, he has dragged the German state into this tax evasion scandal.
Furthermore, it emerged today that in his asset declaration, the declaration for public officials that Khazaradze filled out in January, he did not indicate income from this rented property. He neither indicated the rental contract, which shows yet another lie he committed.
So, now the question to the German Ambassador is simple: what does he plan to do now? Does he plan to continue contractual relations with an internationally recognised fraudster and extremist politician? And then does he plan to lecture the Georgian people from some moral high ground?” Papuashvili declared.
The Revenue Service issued a statement regarding Mamuka Khazaradze’s family renting real estate property to the German Ambassador. As noted in the statement, analysis of the issue revealed possible tax law violations, prompting the Revenue Service to launch an investigation into the facts.
