Speaker Papuashvili: German election losses stem from interference in foreign affairs at the expense of domestic priorities

“When a government becomes preoccupied with interfering in the internal affairs of other nations, it neglects its own domestic obligations, resulting in a crisis of trust among its electorate,” Speaker of the Parliament Shalva Papuashvili stated regarding ongoing regional election results in Germany.

Papuashvili asserted that when a ruling party fails to clear the election threshold, it demonstrates the depth of the political crisis currently gripping Germany.

“According to the latest figures I have seen, the Christian Democrats stand at 4.9%, meaning the CDU failed to cross the election threshold, a very significant message to the German leadership. When a ruling establishment party cannot even pass the threshold, it clearly reflects the magnitude of the political crisis created in Germany.

Ultimately, the government bears the primary responsibility; it is entirely up to them to navigate this deep political crisis and restore public trust. I do not want to emulate certain German politicians by meddling in another sovereign nation’s internal affairs. However, we are witnessing a clear reflection of cause and effect: when a government spends its energy interfering in other countries’ internal affairs, it no longer has time for its own domestic responsibilities. The result is a severe deficit of trust from its own citizens.

This trend is evident not only in Mecklenburg and Saxony, where they suffered complete defeats previously, but also in Berlin. The election results in Berlin are equally telling, where Die Linke, the Left party, emerged victorious.

The public may not be intimately familiar with German political nuances, but consider the establishment’s current attitude toward the AfD, labelling them pro-Russian and treating them as political lepers with whom no coalition can be formed. Historically, Die Linke was treated as political lepers in the exact same manner, dismissed as Stasi figures and remnants of the former GDR. Yet, looking at the election outcomes across these states, whether Die Linke or the AfD, they came out on top. This is the inevitable outcome when a government prioritises foreign interference over addressing the genuine concerns of its own electorate,” Papuashvili declared.
