Speaker: Our gov't achieved another legal victory against Russia through tireless efforts
Today’s announcement of the decision by the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg holds significant symbolism, the Georgian Parliament Speaker, Shalva Papuashvili, echoed the ECHR’s decision in the case of Georgia vs Russia.
As the Speaker highlights, this decision serves as a powerful legal instrument for restoring historical justice, de-occupation, and liberating the indigenous territories.
“The Strasbourg Court’s ruling exposes the systematic violations of the European Convention on Human Rights, which includes the right to life, the prohibition of torture and ill-treatment, the right to liberty and security, the right to property, and freedom of movement, under the conditions of Russian occupation.
This decision serves as a powerful legal tool for restoring historical justice, de-occupation, and liberating our indigenous territories.
Our government achieved another international legal victory against Russia through tireless efforts.
We will ultimately overcome the occupation through peaceful diplomacy and steadfast legal actions,” Shalva Papuashvili wrote on social media.
The Strasbourg-based European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) published its judgement in the case of Georgia vs Russia, having ruled multiple violations of the European Convention concerning the human rights toll caused by the hardening of boundary lines after the 2008 conflict.
