Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili recently met with the co-rapporteurs for Georgia from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in a meeting that covered a range of topics.
According to a Facebook post by the Speaker, the meeting addressed ongoing political developments in Georgia, the activities of the parliament, human rights, efforts towards EU accession, the October 26 parliamentary elections, and recommendations from the OSCE/ODIHR.
During the meeting, Papuashvili briefed the PACE delegation on the opposition’s tactics of boycotting parliamentary activities, emphasizing that this constitutes a key tool in their political struggle following each election.
The Speaker also touched on ongoing protests, noting that the Georgian government is working diligently to take tangible and timely steps to meet all standards and requirements necessary to successfully complete the process for Georgia’s EU accession in the coming years.
The PACE delegation, comprising Claude Kern (France, ALDE) and Edite Estrela (Portugal, SOC), is currently conducting a fact-finding mission in Georgia from January 14 to 16, 2025.
