Speaker: EU-funded NGOs encourage violence; donors must reject extremism

“The head of the Sapari NGO has acknowledged that various European-funded NGOs are contemplating the violent occupation of state buildings. Despite our calls for donors to distance themselves from extremism, they continue to remain silent,” Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili wrote on Facebook.

According to Papuashvili, this troubling silence from donors in response to these allegations only serves to incite further violence.

“Remarkably, the head of the Sapari NGO admits that these organizations are actively considering violent actions against state institutions. It appears these NGOs do not see any issues with extremism and radicalism in our country. Their primary concern seems to be whether they can achieve their objectives, regardless of methods. When we urge donors to disassociate themselves from such extremism, they remain silent, and this silence fuels further violence,” Shalva Papuashvili stated.
