Speaker demands embassy condemnation of pyrotechnic foray on Parliament during NGO-organized protest

“Yesterday, the Georgian Parliament building was once again struck with pyrotechnics. I expect embassies to condemn this attack on the Parliament building,” writes Shalva Papuashvili, the Georgian Parliament Speaker, on social media.

As Papuashvili notes, this attack occurred during a protest organized by NGOs that these embassies finance.

“Two days ago, the ambassadors of the Czech Republic, Germany, Norway, and representatives of the British and Dutch embassies visited and expressed solidarity with the NGO coalition Human Rights House, which, according to the prosecutor’s investigation, was helping protest participants involved in violence near the Parliament to evade legally imposed fines, which simultaneously provides a carte blanche for and encourages further violence.

Yesterday, the Georgian Parliament building was once again struck with pyrotechnics. I expect these embassies to condemn the attack on the Parliament building. Especially since this attack occurred during a rally organized by NGOs they finance,” writes Shalva Papuashvili.
