Speaker calls for transparency over Swiss funding: If nothing to hide, disclose beneficiaries

“If there is truly nothing to hide, they should make public who is receiving funding, for what reasons, and in what volume from the Swiss budget. This would be the true test of conscientious and bona fide donation,” wrote Shalva Papuashvili, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, on social media.

As Papuashvili emphasises, despite repeated public appeals, the Swiss Embassy, like some other donors, has yet to disclose the specifics of who is being financed, for what objectives, or the amounts involved.

“Here comes the ongoing false narrative surrounding the U.S. Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA). I would remind the public that, despite repeated appeals, the Swiss Embassy continues to withhold information about who they are financing and for what purposes. This lack of transparency is concerning, especially when foreign funds may be used to promote hatred, violence, or propaganda, undermining the peaceful development of Georgian society.

Let us consider this another appeal to the Swiss Embassy—if there is truly nothing to hide, they should make public who is receiving funding, for what reasons, and in what volume. This would be the true test of conscientious and bona fide donation,” Papuashvili stated.

The Swiss Embassy in Georgia recently issued a statement via social media regarding the Foreign Agents Registration Act, expressing concern over the legislation.
