Speaker: Amid misinformation, upholding truth is crucial; Georgia's role in facilitating rapid NATO withdrawal from Afghanistan is noteworthy
The Georgian parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, Georgia has demonstrated significant achievements in democratic and institutional development, surpassing many NATO member countries for years.
Papuashvili highlighted on social media that Georgia, under the decision of the Georgian Dream government from 2015 to 2021, participated in NATO’s Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan with the largest contingent among non-NATO countries.
He noted that Georgia’s contribution was the fourth largest within the alliance, following only the USA, Germany, and Italy.
“Amid false accusations and misinformation, it’s crucial to uphold the truth. Under the government of Georgian Dream from 2015 to 2021, Georgia played a significant role in NATO’s Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan, contributing the largest contingent among non-NATO countries.
Comparatively, Georgia ranked fourth in contributions behind only the USA, Germany, and Italy among NATO members. I won’t elaborate on the complexity of tasks performed, as we all recall the stories and sacrifices of our heroic soldiers.
It’s also noteworthy how Georgia facilitated the rapid withdrawal of NATO forces from Afghanistan in 2021, a testament to our strategic cooperation. Moreover, Georgia has consistently outpaced many NATO member countries in terms of democratic and institutional development over the years,” he wrote.
