Shalva Papuashvili: A few hundred individuals exploit tragedies like parasites to politicise everything

“We see that within our society there are a few hundred individuals who stand ready to ruin the country, provoke bloodshed, and overthrow the state; they are prepared to go to any lengths,” stated the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, in response to journalists’ questions regarding the case of Daur Buava.

According to Papuashvili, for years their method has been to act as political parasites on various tragedies and attempt to politicise everything.

“Regrettably, nothing is surprising in this anymore. This is how these people are wired; this is the nature of this group. We see that there are a few hundred such individuals in society; we saw this most clearly on 4 October last year: 7,000 people who are ready to destroy the country, cause bloodshed, and bring down the state; they are capable of all of it. We have these 7,000 people in society whom we witnessed on 4 October. Out of these, a few hundred are more active and stand out in this regard. What is most regrettable is that their method has been to emerge as political parasites in various tragedies and try to politicise everything for years now.

Every single time they have tried to weaponise a tragedy, they have fallen flat on their faces, because the truth either emerged eventually or was obvious from the very start. It has been plain for all to see that these people are engaged in manipulation and the distortion of reality. It is a matter of profound regret that this involves organisations which call themselves media outlets but, in truth, are caught up in generating hysteria and manipulation,” noted Papuashvili.

Furthermore, Papuashvili stated that an intensive investigation into the case is underway, noting that “individuals who were involved in various ways in bringing about this unfortunate incident have been identified, and all these questions will receive definitive answers from the investigation.”

“One would have to be a lover of conspiracy theories to distrust the facts in this case, or a very great enemy of Georgia and Georgian society,” Shalva Papuashvili declared.

For context, blogger Daur Buava was found dead at his residence on 28 August. As part of the investigation launched into Buava’s death, a foreign national was arrested on 29 August on charges of endangerment and abandonment. Additionally, police conducted searches at two properties and arrested two individuals on 30 August on charges of purchasing and possessing narcotic drugs.
