Saakashvili’s release hardly possible, MP Rakviashvili says

Opposition MP Sandro Rakviashvili said the opposition United National Movement (UNM) party wants the jailed ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili to be released from prison. However, it is impossible even if several people go on hunger strike in solidarity with Georgia’s third president.

Rakviashvili underlined it is complicated to obtain reliable information about Saakashvili’s health state either from UNM or the Georgian Dream. However, opposition MP still hopes for the situation would stabilize.

“Saakashvili’s issue is a political problem and should be resolved politically. I hope the Georgian Dream will send him back to Ukraine,” the MP claimed.

Sandro Rekviashvili also remarked on the decision of opposition lawmakers to renounce their MP mandates. Rakviashvili sees no “tragedy” in their decision.

“If they do not know what to do in the parliament and have other better things to do, quitting the parliamentary work is their decision,” Sandro Rakviashvili said.

Lelo and Girchi–More Freedom party leaders Mamuka Khazaradze and Zurab Japaridze officially requested the Parliament to terminate their MP authority.
