“I am pleased to hear that [ex-president] Salome Zourabichvili is talking about the necessity of unity. Last year, when I was saying the same thing, Ms. Salome declared that ‘unity is a planted topic.’ Better late than never,” Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili
The former president emphasized that only the unity of all political actors and the self-organization of the active part of society will lead to “regime dismantling.”
Saakashvili noted that the current “provincial tyranny” is testing the resistance movement’s strength through new repressions.
He called for a more assertive approach to opposition, stating that instead of being intimidated by police or tolerating fines, opposition forces should compile lists of assets to be confiscated and actively provide information about financial machinations to foreign allies.
Drawing from his experience before the Rose Revolution, Saakashvili mentioned his visit to Belgrade to study their resistance movement’s tactics, which he said he later applied in 2003.
“Now too, we should carefully observe how the Serbs are fighting and adopt their current experience. Serbia is also ruled by a pro-Russian authoritarian corrupt regime, and the confrontation with them is very similar to our situation,” Saakashvili concluded.
