Russia's internal passport and driver’s licence offices in occupied Abkhazia to be transferred to Russian territory
The offices responsible for issuing Russian internal passports and driver’s licences in the occupied Georgian region of Abkhazia will soon cease their operations.
Russian media reports indicate that these services will be transferred to facilities within the Russian Federation.
The reported reason for this change is that several local political figures in occupied Abkhazia, including self-proclaimed members of parliament, are questioning the legal legitimacy of these offices.
The Russian passport offices in occupied Abkhazia were established in January 2026, while the driver’s licence offices have been operating since 2025.
