Russian Foreign Ministry said that visiting Georgia’s one of two occupied Abkhazia regions is not safe.
The Foreign Ministry said that on February 2, Abkhazia’s so-called Supreme Court reduced prison term and released an Abkhazian national who was charged with committing a grave crime against a Russian female tourist in 2019.
“It is obvious that the fact creates risks to the security of foreign tourists, who annually visit Abkhazian resorts,” the Ministry said.
In 2021, the court of occupied Abkhazia found Edgar Abubkha guilty of a rape and burglary committed in 2019 against a Russian woman. The charged man was a juvenile then and the court decided that imposition of a prison term to him for more than 10 years was unlawful.
