Runoff municipal elections kicked off in Georgia as polling stations opened at 8 am. Candidates of the United National Movement (UNM) party and the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) compete in the second rounds in Tbilisi and four self-governing cities of Rustavi, Kutaisi, Poti and Batumi.
In Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze (GD) and Nika Melia (UNM), Rustavi – Nino Latsabidze (GD) and Davit Kirkitadze (UNM), Kutaisi – Ioseb Khakhaleishvili (GD) and Khatia Dekanoidze (UNM), Poti – Beka Vacharadze (GD) and Gigi Ugulava (UNM), Batumi – Archil Chikovani (GD) and Giorgi Kirtadze (UNM).
Besides those five self-governing cities, Georgians elect mayors in 15 municipalities – Telavi, Tianeti, Kareli, Khashuri, Tsageri, Baghdati, Tskaltubo, Ozurgeti, Senaki, Martvili, Khobi, Zugdidi, Tsalenjikha, Chkhorotsku, Khelvachauri.
Also, Georgian voters will elect single-mandate candidates in 24 municipalities.
A total of 1,830 polling stations opened across Georgia. The number of registered voters makes 2,088,722. One hundred local and 52 international organizations are observing the runoffs.
The first round of municipal elections was held in Georgia on October 2.
