Roberta Metsola responds to questions on Georgia: EU will always be open to people who look to it
“The European Union will always be open to people who look to it,” European Parliament President Roberta Metsola told journalists in response to questions regarding Georgia ahead of the European Council leaders’ summit.
When asked what Georgia is lacking in the EU enlargement process as other candidate countries move forward, and what her message would be to the Georgian people, President Metsola stated:
“Well, not to give up. The European Union will always be open to people who look to it. And that’s what we say to all the countries. We also look forward to accelerated movement on accession, merit by merit, per country. And that’s why we continue to discuss with all the countries,” Roberta Metsola noted.
Furthermore, in response to a question regarding the strategic importance of the Black Sea region and energy security, specifically whether it is time for the EU to adjust its approach towards Georgia and deepen dialogue, the European Parliament President remarked:
“Well, I think when we talk about energy supplies, we need reliable partners, and we need reliable cooperation,” Roberta Metsola declared.
