The Public Defender of Georgia, Levan Ioseliani, has published a social media post reacting to the court verdict delivered against Aleko Elisashvili.

Ioseliani cited the prison sentences handed down to high-ranking officials from the former administration to draw a parallel with Elisashvili’s punishment.

“Vano Merabishvili [former Interior Minister] —6 years and 9 months; Zurab Adeishvili [former Prosecutor General] —6 years; David Kezerashvili [former Defence Minister] —5 years; Bacho Akhalaia [former Defence Minister] —9 years; Megis Kardava [former chief of Military Police Department] —9 years; Aleksandre Mukhadze, nicknamed “Killera”—9 years; Viktor Kacheishvili—9 years; Oleg Patsatsia—9 years; Gigi Ugulava [former Tbilisi Mayor]—3 years and 2 months; Gaga Mkurnalidze—3 years and 4 months; and so on… Aleko [Elisashvili]—13 years!’ Ioseliani wrote.

For context, Tbilisi City Court has sentenced Aleko Elisashvili, one of the leaders of the Strong Georgia—Lelo coalition, who was detained on charges of an attempted terrorist act, to 13 years in prison.
