Prosecutor’s Office opens investigation into MIA officers’ abuse of authority following parent complaint
“The Investigative Department of the Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into abuse of authority through violence by employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA),” reads a statement from Georgia’s Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the agency, the investigation was initiated based on a referral from the MIA General Inspectorate and a report made by a minor’s parent to the hotline.
“On February 12, 2026, the Investigative Department of Tbilisi Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation into abuse of authority through violence by employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, on signs of a crime envisaged under Article 333, Part 3 of Georgia’s Criminal Code.
The investigation was based on a referral from the General Inspectorate of Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and a report received on the Prosecutor’s Office hotline from the parent of a minor.
All necessary investigative and procedural actions are being carried out in the case. The public will be provided with additional information regarding the results of the investigation,” the Prosecutor’s Office states.
