Prosecutor’s Office opens investigation into death of Security Police employee

The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has initiated an investigation under Article 115 of the Criminal Code into the death of an employee of the Security Police Department, the Office has announced.

“Today, February 9, an employee of the Security Police Department was found dead in the designated workroom for security police at Rabati Prison. According to preliminary information obtained by the investigation, he appears to have inflicted fatal injuries upon himself by discharging his service firearm while on duty, resulting in his immediate death.
Relevant urgent investigative measures are currently underway,” the Prosecutor’s Office stated.
