Prosecutor's Office issues statement on investigation in Chorchana police checkpoint opening
“The investigation is ongoing on the attempt of sabotage, aiding to foreign organizations and organizations subject to foreign control in hostile activities and on mobilizing funds against Constitutional order and national security,” reads the statement of the Prosecutor’s Office, which probes into the opening of the Chorchana police checkpoint in 2019.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the investigation is conducted under Articles 318, 319 and 3211 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
“The investigation focuses on the activity carried out by former minister of internal affairs, Giorgi Gakharia on August 24, 2019, at the occupation line in Chorchana village. Former interior minister Vakhtang Gomelauri, who served as head of the State Security Service in 2019 was summoned for interrogation in the status of a witness.
The investigation into suspicious circumstances over Chorchana checkpoint is led within the format of the parliamentary interim fact-finding commission where Giorgi Gakharia arrived for clarification into the issue,” reads the statement, adding the Prosecutor’s Office would regularly update society with details.
