Prosecutor's Office indicts 17 more individuals over October 4 events, among them one to be bailed out

The Georgian General Prosecutor’s Office has indicted a further 17 individuals on charges of conspiracy to seize strategic facilities as a group and participation in organised violence, Prosecutor Amiran Guluashvili announced during a briefing.

According to Guluashvili, as part of the ongoing investigation into the events of October 4, law enforcement authorities identified that 15 individuals—Amiran Doliashvili, Giorgi Korkia, Zakro Albutashvili, Irakli Chkhvirkia, Anton Uperi, Anton Vardanidze, Giorgi Muladze, Khvicha Gogokhia, Giorgi Chakhunashvili, Ramaz Mamuladze, Genadi Kupreishili, Aleksandre Chilachava, Sulkham Tugushi, Levan Jikia, and Lasha Ivanadze—responded to the rally organisers’ call by attacking and damaging the fence of the Presidential Administration building, subsequently entering the courtyard.

“To resist law enforcers, the indicted individuals demonstrated aggression, threw iron constructions and various objects and verbally and physically assaulted the police officers, threatening their health and life. At the decision of a judge, the police detained the charged individuals on October 8, 9 and 10.

The 15 indicted individuals face up to six years in jail. The other two individuals, Ia Darakhvelidze and Avtandil Surmanidze, charged with participation in group violence, also face a six-year prison sentence.

The Prosecutor’s Office has submitted a motion to the court, requesting the imposition of imprisonment as a penalty for fourteen of the accused. Regarding Giorgi Chakhunashvili, however, taking into account various objective circumstances, the Prosecutor’s Office will instead seek his release on bail rather than detention.

In the same criminal case, organisers of the October 4 events, Paata Burchuladze, Murtaz Zodelava, Irakli Nadiradze, Paata Manjgaladze, and Lasha Beridze, have been charged and remanded in custody. A total of twenty-six individuals have been sentenced to imprisonment,” said Amiram Guluashvili.
