Prosecutor’s Office: Georgia recognised for decade of leading anti-trafficking efforts

The Georgian General Prosecutor’s Office has announced that Georgia has been ranked among the top countries in anti-trafficking efforts for ten consecutive years, according to the U.S. Department of State’s 2025 Trafficking in Persons Report, published on September 29.

The report states that the Georgian government fully meets the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking. During the reporting period, the government maintained serious and sustained efforts, which have ensured Georgia remains on Tier 1, a status achieved by only 33 of 188 countries.

“The Prosecutor’s Office emphasised that through consistent, coordinated, and effective measures, Georgia continues to foster a secure and trustworthy environment in the region in the fight against transnational organised crime and trafficking.

Between 2016 and 2025, criminal proceedings have been initiated against 87 traffickers. Under Article 143 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, proceedings involving the trafficking of adults were launched against 35 individuals, while 51 cases concerning the trafficking of minors were also initiated.

An inter-agency, multidisciplinary working group focused on the detection, prevention, and elimination of labour trafficking has been established under the authority of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The Georgian Prosecutor’s Office remains committed to a strict policy in tackling and addressing crimes related to trafficking,” it stated.
